The Best Of 2009: Car Ride

December 19 Car ride. What did you see? How did it smell? Did you eat anything as you drove there? Who were you with?

The best car ride of this past year, had to have been back in October. C and I finally had the majority of a Saturday together and began our day bright and early. We stopped at Mc D's to enjoy some egg McMuffins before hopping onto the highway. Our first destination - Greenhawk warehouse sale. If you're wondering what the hell Greenhawk is.. it's a store that sells horse supplies. So I was pretty pumped that C even wanted to come with me as the warehouse was about an hour away.

Traffic was light, so we made it there and finished the shopping in good time. Since it was early when we were done, we decided to first trek down the highway a little further west to say hi to my grandpa and make sure his grave stone was in good condition. (---my grandfather died 4 years before I was born. He is buried on the other side of the big city, so any time any of us are in the area, we like to stop just to say hi---)

It was still early after we left the cemetery so C agreed that we continue on to Guelph to visit my former home of 4 years. I've always wanted to show him the university campus that I loved so much and this was the perfect opportunity. I had only been back once since I graduated in June of 2006, and the sensations/feelings that came over me as we drove into the city were so unexpected. The moment we arrived in Guelph I just felt home. I couldn't stop smiling and was so happy and excited. Eating on campus... walking around campus... seeing all of my old hang outs and class rooms... it's amazing the effect that place has over me. I think I will see that as my 'home for the rest of my life.

There was nothing fancy about our car ride to Guelph, but I think it's one that will be grained into my memory for as long as I live.

This does sound like an amazing car ride! Isn't it good to go back to your old "stomping ground?" I always feel the same way when I go back to my old college - all the crazy memories!
