Transformers Review

Ok - so after a very long wait, we went to see Transformers Revenge of the Fallen on Wednesday, June 24, which was opening night. My thoughts? Too keep it short and sweet, the movie was VERY long (over 2.5hrs including previews), BUT I was entertained. Bay could have cut almost an hour out of it and I still would have been entertained and happy becaue it was a bit too long. Was it as incredibly amazing as we all hoped? Sadly no. BUT I was entertained. My boyfriend and his friend who were both really looking forward to this were sadly very disappointed and that is unfortunate. I don't think any of us will ever be watching it again. Not like the first one which we could still watch over and over and love it.

The King of Pop Dies at 50 y/o

What happened yesterday? First Farrah Fawcett, which was at least somewhat expected, but then Michael Jackson???? Wow. I must say, I was in complete and utter shock when I heard on the radio after work that Michael Jackson had passed away. I obviously was not going to be attenting, but I was even looking forward to seeing/hearing how his comeback tour would be going this summer. Although he made some very - let's say "interesting" decisions in regards to his appearance and how he lived his life for the past 15 years or so, the music industry has most definitely and sadly lost a LEGEND. Michael Jackson defined pop music as we know it today, along with making many other contributions to the industry. He will be greatly missed.

My greatest personal memories of Michael Jackson would be watching his movie, "Moonwalker" over and over as a kid. I literally knew the whole thing by heart and will most definitely be reminiscing this weekend when I put it in my machine.
RIP Michael. Your music will forever live on.

RIP Farrah Fawcett 1947-2009

An icon of '70s television as one of the original "Charlie's Angels", Farrah Fawcett sadly lost her battle with anal cancer earlier today at the age of 62. This woman will forever be known as an 'angel' and she most definitely looked like one until this sad day. Thoughts are with Farrah's loved ones during this tough time. She will be missed.

Transformers Time!!!!

I think that my boyfriend has been all excited and hyped up about the new Transformers movie for over a year now.. and the day is finally here!! "Transformers Revenge of the Fallen" is in theaters today and we are most definitely going to see it tonight. We are a bit put off by the fact that the reviews are so mixed for this film, especially on the negative side. But, we are doing our best to keep an open mind and leave the judgment for ourselves. I honestly think that it is going to be phenomenal just like the first one and can't wait to see it! Will most definitely give my own review tomorrow morning. Have any of you readers seen it yet? or plan to see it? Let me know what you think!

Thoughts on Jon and Kate

Well, it was inevitable that I make a post about Jon and Kate. They are in the media left right and center and it's pretty hard to ignore what has happened. I have been a true fan of the show, and what has happened in recent months with this family has really saddened me. If you haven't heard by now, last night the couple announced on their show that they planned to separate. Then, towards the end of the episode, there was a pop up stating that yesterday, June 22, 2009, the couple proceeded with the courts to dissolve their marriage. So there you have it. Divorce. Very sad indeed - and I am sad mostly for the kids. I hate to see families fall apart. And, as much as I love watching the show and seeing those adorable kids grow up, I really honestly think that Jon and Kate are crazy for continuing on with the show. The *right* thing to do would have been to cancel. But then again, who knows what goes on behind the scenes. Maybe they do want to stop, but are already bound in a contract to keep going? Who knows. Shame on TLC though for raking in the cash and the viewers at the expense of this family though. The whole situation is very upsetting, and I can only hope the kids will be able to recover from the traumatic experience that is potentially ahead of them.

Summer is Here! Officially!

..And boy does mother nature sure know how to ring in summer with a bang! Holy heat wave people!! First day of summer and the thermometer in my car peaked at 28 degrees! I love the heat, but oh my, 28 is HOT HOT HOT! I know, I know, I really shouldn't complain since we all spend most of the year yearning for summer. But still.. a high of 24 every day with no humidity would be really nice mother nature! ;)
Despite hot temps, I still managed to keep busy and spend the majority of my time outdoors yesterday - the first day of summer. I wish it could last forever!!

$2 Tanks At Old Navy!

I only make freebie/deal posts when I really feel they are worth it. Well.. here's one that is most defintiely worth it. TOMORROW ONLY --- as in SATURDAY, JUNE 20, all women's and girl's ribbed tanks are only $2!!! I live in tank tops throughout the summer, so if I can get 5 for only $10, you can bet your bottom dollar I'll be getting up early tomorrow to make sure I get some! :)

Friday Album: Sam Roberts "Love At The End of the World"

This is my absolute favourite of Sam's 3 albums to date. It is the ultimate in summer driving albums. Crank the volume, roll down the windows, and off you go. I love this album so much, I am really having a hard times finding the right words to use to justify how good it really is. I think Sam is a musical genius on stage and in the studio and am SO glad he dropped the hockey thing and picked up his guitar. :) Seriously, if you have a love for good Canadian rock and roll, please give this album a try. I promise that you will not be disappointed.

SYTYCD - Goodbye Ashley and Max

I can't believe that this early in the season, I am already sad to see people go. I must admit, I was somewhat shocked with the couples that ended up in the bottom three last night -- James and Caitlin, Max and Kayla, Kupono and Ashley. I like every single one of them! Correction: I like every single dancer in the competition! Out of the six who were in the bottom, I did expect these two to go, but it is still very unfortunate.
I think this season is going to be hard to handle having to see favourites go every week!

So You Think You Can Dance - Top 18

Ok, Ok.. I know, I've been slacking and am very behind in my posts. It's come the time to bounce right back, and what better way to do so, then by beginning my reviews of So You Think You Can Dance (SYTYCD). I was introduced to SYTYCD last spring by my incredible boyfriend. It is his favourite show and quickly became one of my favourites as well! Much like I did with the Biggest Loser, I hope to review SYTYCD on a weekly basis and share my love of the show with anyone who choses to read! ;)
This is already shaping up to be a pretty amazing season -- I have so many favourites that I really almost think any one of them could win at this point. I missed blogging about the first week's top 20 performance, but no worries. Most were AMAZING, and the 2 that left, were the only 2 that I really did not have any care for, so we're all good.
Now on to last night's episode. The top 18 performed and it was another great night of talent. Lil C was the guest judge, and that was about the only bad part about the evening. I am just not a fan of Lil C; especially this season. That being said, on to the performances:
The night opened up with an amazing Jive routine by two of my favourites, Randi and Evan. These two have so much talent and so much spark - I thought they nailed it. Unfortunately, Lil C did not think along the same lines as me, and the other judges were more on his side. Boo. I still think they deserved an A+.
Second was Melissa and Ade with a pretty awesome Jazz routine choreographed by SonyaTayeh (I just love Sonya's work). That sexy ballerina, Melissa, really surprised me with this routine. Both did a really good job at taking Sonya's direction and really making it work. I liked it; judges liked it.
Third was Caitlin and Jason doing one of my least favourite - Hip Hop. Honestly, the only time I ever really seem to like the hip hop routines are when Tabitha and Napoleon are the choreographers. The routine was fairly well done, but you could tell that Caitlin was not 100% comfortable with what she was doing. It was a shame, because I REALLY like these two. And they had such an outstanding first show with their Bollywood routine. Hopefully they are not in danger.
Fourth was Jeannette and Brandon with DISCO!!!!!! In my house, you know they did a great routine if we chose to rewind and watch it all over again! (the benefits of having a PVR). OMg this was such a fun and enjoyable routine. Disco routines on this show are always great and you can't help but tap your feet along to the beat. SO GOOD!
Fifth was Asuka and Vitolio with a beautiful Waltz. I was really worried about these two, because they had such a poor first episode - and they are both beautiful dancers. Well they more than made up for it last night with their waltz. Only word that comes to my mind is beautiful. Just beautiful.
Sixth was Kayla and Max doing a Pop Jazz routine. I just LOVE watching Kayla dance and it's so amazing to see her grandparents by her every step of the way. This girl is really going far in this competition I think.
Seventh was Karla and Jonathan with the second REWIND performance of the night!! (I secretly am going to go home and watch it AGAIN!!!) This was *THE* performance of the night for me. They performed an incredible contemporary routine to one of my absolute favourite songs, "Falling Slowly" performed by The Frames (another plug here -- watch the movie "ONCE" just do it!!!). OMG.. yes, an amazing performance. I will be completely shocked if these two are in the bottom 3 again this week.
Eight was Jeanine and Philip with a Tango. I'm not really a fan of Tango. I'm a huge fan of Philip, and thing Jeanine is great at what she does BUT..... last night was just not that good. I'm worried about them. They will be in the bottom three for sure and do risk going home this week.
And finally to close out the show we get another hip hop routine dance by Ashley and Kupono. They are another pair that I really like, but ugh... I really am not a fan of hip hop!! They were sadly out of sync too --- it just was not a good night for this pair either, and I think they risk being in the bottom 3.
All in all though, it was yet another pretty amazing night on the SYTYCD stage. The judges most definitely picked the right people to be in that top 20!! :)

Friday Album: Metric's "Fantasies"

"Fantasies" is most definitely one of THE albums for me for summer 2009. Metric certainly did not disappoint in their 3rd full-length album which I think is their best so far. I love absolutely everything about this album from start to finish making the wait well worth it. If you're looking for a fun, up-beat, CANADIAN album to add to your summer playlist, "Fantasies" is a must.

SmartCanucks

Just thought I'd make a plug about one of my favourite websites today. I haven't talked about smart canucks since I first began this blog, so I thought I'd take the opportunity to bring it up again. Smart Canucks, otherwise known as SC, is a great website/bulletin board where members share various freebies, coupons, money saving ideas, etc. It is a great community where everyone welcomes members with open arms. I joined back in February and have since recieved many freebies and coupons thanks to the members on SC. If getting free stuff, or even saving on items you usally buy interests you at all, you should definitely check out SC.

Meet Charlie!

It is official. Pictured above is the new member of the family - my mom's new puppy "Charlie". She just found out only moments ago that this little guy is going to be the one. She gets to bring him home Saturday and the whole family couldn't be more excited. I can't wait until I get to babysit the little guy for the first time!
